Case Study – Stellar Garlands

Here at Yorkshire Powerhouse, we believe in the value of studying other successful businesses and organisations to allow you to develop new ideas and strategies that could benefit your own business. We keep these case studies snappy and easy to access to allow you to rapidly gather the relevant information:

When did the business start trading:

October 2016

Who started the business:

Stella Morrissey

Tell us what you do and how you do it:

Stellar Garlands creates garlands which tell a story.

We are visual storytellers & whether the client is a person or a business, we are totally inspired by their incredible journey, by who they are, and who they are still becoming. We wish to overtly show off the best perception of our client. Hence their achievements, future dreams, and even loves, which have contributed to that story, are reflected in lovingly, handcrafted adornments. These extra special enhancements, amongst other highlights, are weaved into fir boughs, reflecting the different directions of the client’s life. The combined story garland positively affirms visually, the total success of the client. It sends out beneficially uplifting, subliminal messages to those who witness this visual journey garland, either at home or in the workplace. They create a beautiful & mindful space to be.

Yet these garlands are not just for Christmas. They can be crafted to celebrate any life milestone, contribution, or even to display the characteristic theme/story of a business to visiting clients. They are perfect for anywhere.

The magical ingredients are a little imagination, with more than a touch of love. Yet ultimately, it’s all about the client…and the story they wish to honour.

Who buys your product / service:

Our clients are those who have a story they would like to share, as well as those who don’t. The garlands are highly adaptable, so alternative bespoke, non-storytelling garlands, wreaths & centrepieces are often created for other occasions.

Some clients don’t have the time, the energy, or the creativity, to put together the ideas they have in their heads into expeditious, luxurious décor. So Stellar Garlands undertakes this task, enabling them to happily let go of those frustrating stresses.

What makes your business stand out from your competitors:

Stellar Garlands, with their acute attention to detail, are the only storytelling garland business in the UK. We listen meticulously to fully understand how to best represent our clients visually and are insightful as to what makes our clients truly tick.

What are the main strength/s of your business:

Stellar Garlands believe empathically listening to understand a client on a deep level, and exploring their creative needs sensitively, will help build mutually long-lasting trust and loyalty, and often beyond the usual business relationship into lifelong friendships.

The creations of Stellar Garlands are positively transformative undertakings. With their attention to detail being so acute, they have the ability to transform an often-challenging historical story, into a stunningly beautiful…and very present one.

What are the values that drive your business:

Stellar Garlands was, through accidental art rehabilitation, created from personal adversity. It grew from a wish to perceive hard challenges as opportunities for deep growth and to show that anything can be made beautiful, with just a little more thought. As the Wayne Dyer quote says…

“If we change the way we look at things, then the things you look at…changes.”

What’s your favourite business book and why:

Building a Story Brand – Donald Miller.  He brilliantly showed how to view a business from a clever storytelling perspective. An engaging tool to assist in promoting any business with vital problem-fixing solutions for their clients.

Finding Peace in a Frantic World – Mark Williams & Danny Penman It inspires a person to stay mindfully present, gently managing stresses, no matter the chaos around them.

What is the most useful lesson you’ve learned through experience:

To create the best and most magical partnerships that work for you, and ones which last way beyond any business boundary needs, you simply need to be true to yourself.

Learn to trust your instinct…and you.

What is the main mistake to avoid in future:

Clear, ongoing & detailed transparency in all written communications with clients. As part of good business practice, ensure the client fully understands the process and is kept well informed of progress throughout the transaction to its conclusion.

Which business success are you most proud of:

Against all the odds due to challenging disabilities, and the recent global events, the fact Stellar Garlands is even in business at all is a success all on its own.

Alternatively, happy ongoing successes are seeing clients proudly display a Stellar Garlands piece of art…year after year.

Now that’s a magical fizz!

What are your future ambitions:

Stella cannot wait to witness a client see their creation for the very first time. That reactive moment is so incredibly moving for everyone.

So to expand Stellar Garlands, with other (potentially disadvantaged) creators, who share that love & joy of creating something so meaningfully special. To bear witness to their faces when the clients are presented with their own personalised works of art and seeing them all being utterly blown away.
