Case Study – The Alpha Group
Here at Yorkshire Powerhouse, we believe in the value of studying other successful businesses and organisations to allow you to develop new ideas and strategies that could benefit your own business. We keep these case studies snappy and easy to access to allow you to rapidly gather the relevant information:
When did The Alpha Group start trading:
Who started the business:
Gerard O’Donovan, CEO of the The Noble-Manhattan Group. Europe’s premier and longest established professional coaching and coach training organisation.
Tell us what you do and how you do it:
We help managing directors and business owners double the value of their business in 2 to 3 years. We run monthly online peer-to-peer executive boards. We provide our Members with a trusted, confidential environment to share scaling up challenges to receive inputs, perspectives and potential solutions from experienced business-owning peers sitting around the table.
The Boards enable you to unlock your company’s full potential for growth and success by inspiring and motivating you to make transformational changes within your business. They also help build leadership skills so that you enjoy personal success – inside and outside of your business.
Who buys your product / service:
Our customers are the owners, managing partners and managing directors of local companies, they are the decision-makers who can implement strategies. We are looking for companies that embody the best about your local community, businesses that have local contacts, businesses that really put your location on the map. We are looking for companies that help create and nurture a rich local business ecosystem and act as respected leaders in your area.
What makes your business stand out from your competitors:
Our Audacious promise, to double the value of your business within 2 to 3 years, a promise we have always kept, our global reach, our unique FastGrowth workbooks, our unique mastermind process, our accountability, our GOLD™️ Coaching, these are some of the reasons that we are Exclusive, Elite and Inspirational.
What are the values that drive your business:
Our core values are Support, Commitment, People and Talent, Quality, Respect, Social Responsibility and Privacy.
Our mission is to help businesses grow and thrive, which helps the business owner enjoy a more balanced life, it helps them develop their staff, employ more people, and enrich their communities.
This leads in turn to them needing all sorts of other local businesses, recruitment, HR, train, coaching. A rising tide lifts all ships and a growing business helps local shops.
What is the most useful lesson you’ve learned through experience:
When facing a legal issue, be clear to confront it head-on.
What are the main strength/s of your business:
Working with Family businesses where there may be more than one generation, working with business owners that are time-poor, or stressed, that have challenges, and don’t feel that they have anyone to turn to. Working with long-established businesses that want to develop wow products and services.
What’s your favourite business book and why:
Apart from my own, which I have yet to finalise, I would say What’s Your URP? (Unique Referral Point) by Andrew Gibson or Uncommon Sense in Unusual Times by Csaba Toth. Both books give valuable insights into how to succeed in business.
What is the main mistake to avoid in future:
Never underestimate your blind spot and your ego as obstacles to success.
Which business success are you most proud of:
At the moment I am proud of taking the Alpha Group to Uganda and seeing it spread across Africa, and I am looking forward to it helping their local economies, as the businesses expand and take on more staff and increase their training and promote their commercial links with the rest of the world. Africa is a great place to invest in at the moment.
What are your future ambitions:
To be a big part of an organisation that will help 1 million businesses over the next 15 years to double in value, all around the world, and to see the improvement that has on their local communities.
